Thrifty Re-do

Welcome to yet another Met Monday, hosted by the very clever Susan at Between Naps on the Porch and Today's Thrifty Treasures, hosted by the "eye for a bargain" Rhoda at Southern Hospitality. Be sure to stop by their sites and see what they and others have been up to lately.
Right after Christmas I picked up this little picture on sale for 90% off - $2. I didn't like the brown landscape with snowmen - why brown at Christmas?! - but I liked the frame.

So I removed the embroidered snowmen, spray painted the frame white, and then sprayed the "much talked about" blackboard paint on to the board and - voilĂ  - a nice little welcome sign by my back door in the garage! I thought it would be especially fun to add the grandies' names when they come to visit and see if they notice!

My little basket of daisies was inspired by the front door daisies Susan showed (Between Naps on the Porch). It's fun to change out the flowers with different seasons.
Got this lovely LARGE scene for $5 - I just love the charm of a French scene. I didn't know where I would put it, but quickly found a place against a red wall.

My friend Debbie at Confessions of a Plate Addict is really good at fishing through piles of things at GW - I tend to graze the surface only. Anyway, she found this Southern Living plate and bowl and was so kind to let me get them for 88 cents each because I already had some of the pieces!

Having learned from Debbie's example, I ran upon these Villery and Boch plates (pattern Mansoir) for 88 cents each at GW. The porcelein pattern has been discontinued and they sell for $15 each at Replacements. My DIL has a similar pattern, so I thought these would be great to add to her collection.

Well, that's about it for my Met and thrifting. I'm trying to catch up on some projects. Be sure to stop by Susan's at Between Naps on the Porch and Rhoda's at Southern Hospitality, and check out all the other participants. Happy Monday! Linda

Hi Linda,
I love the blackboard you made and the daisy decor. The thrifty finds were just wonderful! I don't think my GW has such fine china. Isn't it great to get such good buys! Cindy

Linda, I wish I could go thrifting with you & Debbie! You're so clever - I would never have thought of buying the snowman picture, even tho I thought they were kind of cute, & re-inventing it the way you did. You now have me looking at pictures & frames in a different way.

I bought a picture at Ross today - love the picture - hate the frame. It'll be a post as soon as I do some painting & switching, & I have your clever ideas & inspiration for this! ☺ Diane

Great idea for the snowman picture. It looks so good as a chalkboard, and it makes for a very warm entrance. I love the dishes you found too. Great job!

Love the blackboard, I bet the grandkids will love seeing their names. Beautiful dishes....I never find dishes that pretty at my thrift stores. Most of the dishes I see have that country goose on them.

Hey Linda, you asked about the sisal rug. We don't use that room on a day-to-day basis so the rug doesn't get walked on much. It was a custom ordered rug (can't remember where) so it's a little better quality than the one in my den. I have a "faux" one in the den and will replace it with a better one down the road.

Joni from Cote de texas told me "seagrass" never "sisal" when I asked her about using it as a wall-to-wall floor covering....she said her daughter learned to crawl on seagrass (it's softer than sisal).

So I guess what I'm saying is I highly recommend either/or sisal or seagrass. Do a little checking on both to find which you like best. It's such a great look and I will definately use it again.

Hugs!
Judy

At first I thought you "murdered" the snowmen until I reread that you removed them :) That is perfect for a chalkboard and you are right. I bet the grandkids will love it--like a marquis in front of a hotel!

What a lovely welcome you created! Love that chalkboard paint! I have a mirror in my kitchen that I write welcome messages on- to my grandchildren and others - with a magic marker for windows. They love to see their names on it when they come to visit. laurie
