Faux Grain Sack Runner & Bargains

I have a great little faux grain sack runner,

imspired by  Sherry at No Minimalist Here

who was inspired by

Kathy at Creative Home Expressions

to come up with this little gem.

The nice thing about it is that it is toweling

and the sides are already hemmed.

I just turned the ends, ironed, and stitched the ends.

I made 2 in 10 minutes!

The other one has red stripes like Sherry's and Kathy's.

I think Kathy and Sherry got their toweling at fabric.com,

but that site was out of it by the time I got there, so I got my toweling at Quilters Studio.

Lots of color choices! - I saw that Marty at A Stroll Thru Life

made a pretty one, too!

It only took 2 yards for my table and it has the perfect amount of overhang.

Debbie at Confessions of a Plate Addict has another great idea in mind for this toweling.

I'm having some great luck drying hydrangeas.

I'll be back to tell you what is working for me!

I found this fabulous old leather book mixed in with the GW books for $2.50

I have no idea how it ended up there, but this is my best book find. Ever.

I keep looking for an old edition of

Julia Child's book - "Mastering the Art of French Cooking".

                                                                   Haven't found it yet.

each talked ourselves into matching little urns and then

found this cute green spikey thing to go in the urns.

My hydrangeas are drying nicely.

Hopefully it'll continue and I'll tell you what works for me!

Frenchy Pillow

Have you seen various designs for French fabric around lately? Some people are stenciling it, some are painting it, and some are buying this linen fabric. Since I am not a great painter (other than walls and furniture), when I ran across this fabric on sale.....in French and English.....and with our wedding anniversary - February 12 - on it, I decided to get some.

You will note a small piece of trim toward the bottom right of the photo.

I am a little perplexed why some writing would be in English and some in French, nevertheless, I like it. There was a pillow in the fabric store made with this fabric, this trim, and black flat edging. The price was $173!!! I thought, hmmmm, I can make that. The fabric was on sale for $30 a yard, so I bought 2/3 of a yard and will get 3 pillows out of it for $25! I have several down pillow inserts from GW for $2 and $3 each.

Ta da!!

The date is in English, but the paragraph of writing above it is in French.

This photo shows the pretty braid and then the flat black edging made from fabric left over from a sewing project a few years back.

I thought the corners were interesting. I give credit to the person - whoever he/she is - who made the pillow in the store. I just copied the idea.

Check out these little burgers and fries that Daughter made for Father's Day.

Look again, they are dessert - yep, cupcakes with a brownie inside, along with green icing and red icing to resemble lettuce and tomato. The "fries" are sugar cookies. That's some kind of metamorphosis! My daughter loves Bakerella's site, where she found this clever idea, along with LOTS of other great treats. Check it out!

5 New Slipcovers

I have made 5 new slipcovers - can you believe it? Let me explain.

First, I have had this little Ethan Allen GW find for $28 for about 6 months, just working up the courage to slipcover it. Miss Mustard Seed and Traci at Beneath My Heart had inspired me with their slipcovers, so I finally got started.

I've been working on this for a week...1 hour here, 2 hours, there....not my favorite way to tackle a project like this.

Even today I must confess that it is lacking a few final touches of being finished, but I wanted to show you (actually I was desperate for a post!). The arms still have me in a quandry. I think I'll do ties on the wooden part of the arm. Anyway, I'm not too traumatized to try another slipcover (in about another year!).

I made four of these slipcovers.

What, you don't think it's a slipcover? It is a jumper that could cover a slip....hence a slipcover!

I made one for each of our four granddaughters.
