Pottery Barn Knock-Off

I saw a great little pot with a sunflower at

Pottery Barn the other day for $12.

I knew it was an easy knock-off challenge.

All I needed was 1 small clay pot - $1

 I aged it with some

white, green and brown

paint left over from my grandies'

paint-by-number kit.

I pulled the bloom off a faux sunflower
(from a bunch from GW  for $2)

that I already had and plopped

it on top.

Daughter suggested that I tie a piece

of jute around it.

I usually don't argue....she's good!

(Disregard the mess in the background and the opened pantry door!!)

I think it's cute, and can go in so many places.



They also had a red sunflower in a pot at PB.

I got one at Michael's - they were 40% off.

Wouldn't that be cute in the fall or even at Christmas?!

That's an easy project and wouldn't it be a fun gift

tucked in a basket with chocolates and some Bonne Maman Preserves
(and a loaf of French Bread....I'm missing France!)!

Frenchy Clothespins and Cloche

Did you know there was such a thing as "French clothespins"? Well, I didn't either, but I saw some while thrifting with Debbie @Confessions of a Plate Addict, and we were both surprised at how pricey they were.

So..........take one bag of clothespins from GW - 88 cents:


Roll them across the large stamp (from HobLob) with French writing. (I already had one that I have used to stamp coasters!)

Stand the gals up to dry......

And fill a container.....Mine is in my "French Garden" laundry room....makes laundry sound better, huh?

Or maybe better in this containter.....

And now for my homemade cloche. Several people in blogland have already done this, but I haven't, so here it is. You need one cheese dome from GW - $2.92.

A wooden candlestick from GW - 88 cents!

Turn the wooden base upside down and remove the stand pieces.

Then glue the candlestick to the cheese round. I actually turned the candlestick upside down because I like it better than way. Also, one person used Gorilla Glue, but I used Elmer's Carpentry glue because my husband loves it and we have a LARGE container of it. I put glue on the bottom of the candlestick, centered it - touching the base, then added a little more glue to the circular piece, pressed together, and put an old antique iron on it over night to dry completely.

I spray painted it black because I already black paint, but someone else used ORB and it looked beautiful. I even debated doing a chippy white finish. They are so cheap, and I have another 88 cent candlestick, so I may try it.

Mossy Makeover Menagerie

Happy Monday, I have a menagerie of mossy makeovers (thrifty, no less!) to show you.
Remember last spring when everyone had those bunnies on a stick.....

I had some leftover moss that I wanted to use, and I remembered Miss Mustard Seed came up with a great idea. You can check her site here.

I have a silver rose bowl that was a wedding gift a thousand years ago and was tucked away in a cabinet.

Add a scrunched up plastic grocery bag....hot glue the super moss on top.......

And there you have it!

I know gazillions of people have been making moss balls, but I'm slow....that is it takes me a while to decide I would like to have something in my house. So.....just a little more hot glue on a styrofoam ball....add the super moss......

And place it atop this silver cup that Debbie at Confessions of a Plate Addict and I found while thrifting. Only $2.50 each!

You can take this little gem anywhere....

Or how about a moss ball in a small silver Revere bowl in a grouping with the faux plant on the right ($1.51-GW and doesn't it look real?!) You will notice Nina's Nest on the left : )

OK, last week some of you liked the clean look on the PB inspired mantel, and some of you liked the books in the middle. It looked like this......

I love the simple clean look, but I sort of slipped in a few layers (I can't help myself!) I put 1 book under the fleur de lis and then added a wicker charger behind the white vases (which I staggered from large to small TO large, small, medium). Again, I saw something similar in Savvy Southern Style (I think) and liked the texture of the wicker. Whaddaya think?

I hope you have a great Monday. And now for the latest transformation.....I am wearing glasses today. Yep, I lost a gas permeable contact lens last night. While taking it out (which I have done a hundred million times) it hit my hand and popped somewhere. After spending 30 minutes on the floor, checking inside/outside my clothing, etc., I have deducted that it hit the sink and bounced in that little overflow hole on the back of the sink. Who'd a thought? If Kentucky had shot like that in the basketball game last night, they would have won! Tomorrow at 9am I'll be ordering another lens. Wish Kentucky could have another try, too!

Laundry Tub Fashionista or Hiding Those Fat Legs!

Well, it's about time I did another post, isn't it?! I always enjoy Met Monday with Susan at Between Naps on the Porch, and Today's Thrifty Treasures with Rhoda at Southern Hospitality,
so I am joining them today with a little tweaking of the laundry room. By the way, this post was originally entitled "Tweaking the Laundry Room", but after reading Shelia's hilarious post ( at Note Songs) about the "Fallen Woman", I retitled this!

A while ago I added this little GW gem to the right of the door for some storage in my teeny, tiny 30 year old laundry room.

At the time, I didn't show the laundry sink because.......well, she is just embarrassed! She really doesn't like her legs - does anybody out there identify with her? Yep, I do!

Are you ready? Here she is with her stubby legs and some laundry room junk necessities stashed under the sink.

OK, people, this is so embarrassing!

So I found this great French fabric ($3.99 at a small fabric store) that would work in my garden themed laundry room. Do you see "le jardin" below? For you non-Frenchies, that means "the garden"! How appropriate!

I found some burlap webbing with black trim at my local Ace hardware store for 35 cents a foot - that stuff is great! Only took 4 feet. I attached sticky-backed velcro tape to the sink and sewable velcro to the webbing, and voilà - no more exposed legs and necessities!

Yes, that was my microwave that you saw on the shelf above the cabinet. I have room in the kitchen, but I do not like microwaves - there, I said it - I think they are ugly and I was not willing to give up my double oven for a single oven with a microwave. I am stingy with my countertop space and prefer to be unpractical and decorate it! My microwave is only used to re-heat leftovers. Does anybody else out there have the same issues with microwaves? Oh, well, pardon me if you love your microwave.

I did add these cute little HobLob knobs (half price, of course)to the doors above the washer and dryer. I think they add a little pizzaz.

I think I'm finished with this room now.

Um.....well.......I do have in mind a sign that says "La Blanchisserie" - French for "the laundry room". Not quite sure how I'll make it....chalkboard? stencilled letters? any ideas? Eventually I'll get it done and then we'll move! Happy Monday, and drop by Susan's and Rhoda's for some great Thrifting Mets or Metting Thrifts???? Linda
