Foodie Friday - We Need to Talk!

Welcome to Foodie Friday, hosted by the wonderful chef Gollum at Designs by Gollum. You will love stopping by her site to see what's cooking in a multitude of kitchens!
OK, let's talk bathing suits. Whaaaaatttttt? "I thought this was a Foodie Friday post," you're thinking. It is, but I thought you might like the inspiration for this post. What - you could care less? Well, in that case, just scroll on down to the picture.

Oh, so some of you are interested? How polite of you! Well, being a blog person of few words, this is more than a few for me. Do you hate bathing suits? Remember the bumper stickers that said "I BRAKE FOR___(whatever)?" Well, is there one for "I WEAR BATHING SUITS under duress FOR MY GRANDCHILDREN"? If so, could you get me one? Anyway, it's that time of year - when I wonder if I should replace my 10 year old bathing suit? or the 8+ year old "hand-me-down" that my daughter couldn't wear (it's my favorite)because she lost weight? Hmmmmmm.

Okay, I broke down and ordered 3 from that place that has non-obscene bathing suits - am I allowed to say which company? If not, it rhymes with "Stan's friend" - hee hee hee. One of them passed the husband/daughter approval test, so it will probably stay. It is cute - a 2 piece (don't be horrified - it's not the 2 piece we used to wear up until.....after childbirth whenever , but a top that comes over a cute little skirt). However, if there is any chance that that top will ride up over the skirt, then I will be toast - traumatized - compelled to buy an early 1900's vintage coverall suit. Does this style work for any of you?

So, this meal is my inspiration for sensible eating. This is summertime, a time I want to be in the water with the grandies - I love water and swimming and I LOVE my grandies!!! I confess that once I am in the water, I completely forget about myself (which is a good thing) and have FUN!

I present - ta da - last night's dinner: grilled marinated chicken, fake mashed potatoes pureed cauliflower, and roasted asparagus.

The chicken has my favorite "all kinds of meat" marinade. I shared it on a previous post with a pork dish, but in case you didn't see it, here it is again.

Marinate for beef, chicken and pork
2/3 cup soy sauce (I use low sodium)
1/4 cup oil (I use canola)
2 tablespoons molasses
2 teaspoons ginger (fresh, or more if ground)
2 teaspoons dry mustard
1-2 cloves garlic (crushed)
Marinate meat several hours. Grill and enjoy!

The "fake mashed potatoes" are the famous SB diet - pureed cauliflower.
Asparagus is simply drizzled with olive or canola oil and roasted at 425 degrees for 12 minutes.
Then grate a light dusting of FRESH parmesan over it.

The meal is light and delicious and very low calorie. I even think it is "bathing suit friendly". Well, time will tell. Don't forget to stop by Gollum's at Designs by Gollum. Bon Appétit! Linda

p.s.By the way, Laurie at Bargain Hunting with Laurie, expressed kindly, completely, and wonderfully my feelings - both guilt and angst - over awards, tags, etc. I am never sure what to do with them, how to attach them, and can never make a list of 8 funny, etc. things about me. So thank you for your kind awards that I couldn't figure out how to post, and the fun tags with info, and just know that I enjoy reading your blogs, but will be otherwise "awardless and tagless"(except for the one in the back of my shirt right now).

Love the menu, and I don't even want to think about a bathing suit. That kind of thought makes me kind of uncomfortable. I love the recipe for the marinade, I will give that a try, and the pureed cauliflower sounds good. Maybe I can trim down a little. Hugs, Marty

Linda,
Swimsuits! Ugh! Love the menu! why is it so hard to find a good suit? It's easy when your 18 and firm as can be, but why can't they make better suits for women our age? Just a thought to ponder, have a good week-end. Cindy

I frankly think the swim suit would take a hike when it saw my body approaching it!!

Yikes - I just realized I'm going to have to find a suit before our trip on the 4th. I may be eating this delicious looking meal ALOT in the next few weeks. Oh, and tell Deb that the store that rhymes with Stans Friend looks the same whether she is typing in English or French, tee hee. Kathy

Yummm, this looks so delicious! Loved the faux potatoes!
I have 2 2-piece swimsuits that I don't wear because I don't go to a pool, but they're really cute. The top is long & covers much of the bottom, however it doesn't cover all the not so firm anymore legs... If I ever have grandkids, I'd love to go swimming with them regardless of my not so slim & firm body. ☺ diane

Wonderful post and great menu. Do you suppose there is any way designers can convince teens that the "in" look for the beach are those old knee length bloomers are great grandmothers wore. They convinced them that what I'll always consider to be maternity tops were high fashion, so it's possible.

I LOVE the suit you got, and yes, you are allowed to say you got it at Land's End! In fact, they'd really appreciate you saying it, especially if you link it to their website. Nothing but good word of mouth for them!

I am wearing a bathing suit as I type this and spent the day at the beach. There were many who could use the SB diet on Hilton Head or else all the lycra in the suits has a defect in it. Needless to say, my bathing suit included:)

Well Linda I am right there with you... Look horrible in a swimsuit but love the grandkids so on it goes and off I go to the pool, beach or pond... Where ever there is water there I am in all my glory. I just pretend I am still 18 ☺ ☺ ☺

I'm beyond hope. I don't have the cute little figure I had in the 1980's (when I thought I was fat @ 98 lbs -LOL) so now I just don the suit and go for it. I wear the "Stan's Friend" 2 piece with the little matching shorts. If you go to the water parks you will see that a lot of the Mom's have the very same suits. -LOL. BTW, I have your marinade recipe and it is delish! ~ Robyn

Oh Linda, I cannot tell you how much I hate bathing suits! I hate shopping for them, trying them on, and wearing them. I think it is one of the most depressing events in life. (Isn't it amazing what being a grandmother will cause a person to do!) I'm so late with my blog visiting, and had not seen your kind mention of me and my blog. Thanks for that. It made me feel so good to know that what I said sounded okay. laurie
