3 Little Makeovers

Welcome to Metamorphosis Monday hosted by the gracious Susan at Between Naps on the Porch. Be sure and check out her site for some great inspiration and also see who else is participating.

How I wish I had a photo of this chest of drawers that I spotted one morning in my neighborhood while out for an early morning walk. It was resting on its back by the trash can and all the drawers were removed and laying on the grass. My walking friend and I sprinted 1/4 mile back to my house, jumped in my car, and drove back to pick up this sad looking chest. I KNEW my husband could resuscitate it and make it even better than before. He kept the top 2 drawers and the bottom drawer. In the middle, he removed 3 drawers, built a shelf half way between to allow for 2 openings instead of 3. He added new trim across the base and gave it several fresh coats of white paint.

I ran to Target and bought 4 baskets that fit perfectly in the openings.

When we were finished, we called Daughter to tell her we had a free piece of furniture for the baby's room. She was thrilled, and I'll have to admit we were a little proud of our "Trash to Treasure" find right in our own neighborhood!

Debbie at Confessions of a Plate Addict and I were antiquing/junking/ fleamarketing, etc. and stumbled across a thrift store. I found this hunt scene with several scratches in the frame and dirty, broken glass. It was $25 but 50% off that day. Somehow the final price was $11...go figure

See the broken glass on the bottom....it's a shame because I had to pay another $8 for glass (still not bad overall).

We thought about painting the frame black, but after covering the scratches and installing clean, unbroken glass, we had a lovely hunt scene that I am really excited to give to my sister. She's been looking for something over her mantel in her woodsy style family room. (Sorry about the glare....how do you get rid of that?)

You might remember my vaissellier from a previous post.

Well, I have added a few more items - is that too much? Hope Daughter doesn't mind : )

Thanks for taking a look at 3 little makeovers. Be sure to stop by Susan's at

Great neighborhood find. The chest for the baby's room looks just perfect and so much storage. The baskets were a perfect idea for those easy to reach things like diapers. The hunt scene you and Debbie found is so pretty. I love hunt scenes and what a wonderful gift. I also really like all the new things you've added to the hutch. Great post, I enjoyed all 3. Hugs, Marty

Great post. I love the cabinet you did for the babies room, the baskets are perfect. The hunt scene was a steal, even with the purchase of the glass. As far as glare, if you can't turn the flash off, try taking the photo from a slight angle rather than straight on. I always forget about the flash, so now my pix are almost taken from the "side". Love all your re-do's. Kathy

What a great transformation on that chest of drawers, Linda. You and your hubby are both very handy and creative. The hunt scene picture is very nice and I don't think adding more on your hutch is too much...Christine

Oh my I simply loved that chest of drawers project. the baskets were perfect. Great price on the print! (ps - take the pic from an angle that might help the glare). Also...for your hutch - is there ever too much? LOL

OH the piece for the babies room is adorable. I dont think its too much on your hutch and what really matters is that you like it...very pretty. You asked about a glare on the picture, try taking the picture on an angle, i find that usually helps.
thanks for sharing

Gotta love "curbside shopping"...the price is right and you can be creative with it because you have nothing to lose. My favorite kind of furniture. YOU DID AN AMAZING JOB.

The chest and picture were great finds :-) Your hubby did a wonderful job fixing up the chest. And it looks like it found the perfect home :-)

Your vaissellier is beautiful. I think you should remove a few of the pieces that are on it and show of more of that gorgeous wood!!

If you and your DH were alike, one of you would be unnecessary. Together you make a really good team. In my marriage I provide a good bit (maybe 80-85% of the vision and DH supplies about 80-85% of the brawn for our endeavors. It has worked out to be a good combination of efforts for us. I tend to be the planner and he functions as the executor.

So glad you were able to see the potential of the discarded chest. It turned out beautifully. I know your daughter appreciates the additional storage space.

The picture looks really good also.

Glenda,
That's so funny about the division of vision and brawn! It sure makes for some fun projects and some "trash to treasure". Thanks for stopping by. Linda
