Met Monday and Thrifty Treasures

Welcome to a double post - Met Monday, hosted by Susan at Between Naps on the Porch

and
Today's Thrifty Treasures, hosted by Rhoda at Southern Hospitality.

You'll want to check out both of these sites for some makeover ideas and thrifting from Susan and Rhoda, as well as all the other participants.

Today's makeover is an empty, sad pot.

I planted thrillers, spillers and fillers. The picture looks a little drab, but in real life, it is so pretty. There are dragon wing begonias, million bells, asparagus fern ,creeping jenny, tall grass, and something else that I forgot - it reminds me of a sweet potato vine.

This is a staged shot. Once there were just some hellera holly, and then......

I added some caladiums.

OK, this will take some explanation. I don't know what the builders of this house were thinking when they chose this tile surround with dogwood in the corners for the fireplace 30 years ago. I guess it might have looked nice when the walls were green, but now it is really an eye sore to me...........Oops, that would be us.....what were we thinking??!!!! Why didn't we pick something more neutral, more classic and simple??!!
Ah, how do you like my makeover? Well, I must confess that I taped white paper over the tile just to see how it would look. Now we've got to figure out what to do....any ideas?????
And now for my thrifty finds....... the handle on my silver teapot had fallen off, so when I saw this for $3 at a yard sale, I figured it would be cheaper to replace the pot than repair mine.
This clock was $5 at a yard sale - never used - a salesman's sample.
This cheerful amarylis was a $2 treasure!
Did you hear Debbie at Confessions of a Plate Addict scream when she saw the price of this Red Cliff tureen at Queen of Hearts ( a wonderful antique/flea market in Alpharetta, GA)? She has this same tureen - it belonged to her mother. Anyway, she knew I had been looking for one. Best prices are on ebay - anywhere from $60 to $300, plus $20 shipping. She wanted me to guess how much it was, but never would I have thought $22!!!!! It is in pristine condition - no cracks, chips or crazing. Needless to say, Debbie and I were in shock for a few hours!
Hope you have a happy Monday and don't forget to stop by Susan's at Between Naps on the Porch for Met Monday and some great ideas. Also, go visit with Rhoda at Southern Living and see what treasures she has found, as well as other participants. Blessings, Linda

J'ai changé la musique encore....comme avant! Mais ça change automatiquement au lieu d'entendre "La Vie en Rose " à chaque visite.

Linda - I don't have a clue what Debbie said above - but I *think* it said ..."Oh, Barb is gonna be soooo jealous when she sees this tureen you scored for $22." Yep, I am pretty darn sure that is what it translated to. LOL

I am jealous, no doubt! I also love your new planted pots. Caladiums are some of my faves.

Thx for sharing...Barb

I do like your fireplace white better. Will you paint? Wonderful treasures -- and can't believe only $22 for the tureen! Part of the rite of spring, is bringing drab planters back to life.

The flowers are just lovely. I love the colors. Your fireplace tile looks fabulous white and maybe even black would be pretty. As for your thrift finds, they are just exceptional. Your coffeepot and tureen are both outstanding. I know Debbie must have been elated for you when the soup tureen was found. They're just lovely. Hugs, Marty

I would have been screaming when I saw that tureen too (and I'd be fighting you for it)LOL! I've got to go there and see what other treasures they have!

The planter looks great and I love the caladiums! You can paint tile or maybe you could just remove those two tiles and choose something else to put there.

Great finds! I love the soup tureen, and the price is unbelievable. I really like the clever way you mocked up the fireplace. Can you simply paint the tile? I do like it white, or Marty's suggestion of black would look stunning too. (Do you have some black paper lol). Kathy

Hi, Nina, oh I see you girls are over in the Atlanta area (I'm from Marietta) and are hitting some of my favorite shopping spots. Not sure if I've been to this Alpharetta spot, but I used to love the big antique mall up in Roswell. That HUGE tureen is a steal & just beautiful. What a great find, so happy for you. You probably know that I collect tureens too & have found some pretty ones at the yardsales.

Thanks for playing along today!

Well my friend, are you dead-set on painting that fireplace surround white? Don't know that you think about painting it black...I think it would look really pretty against the white mantle. Just a thought!!! Best wishes in your decor decisions...have fun, my friend!!!

Hi Linda...

Just read the sweet note that you left on my little thrift store Easter bunny tree...I'm so glad that you came by for a visit and thanks so much for the sweet comments!!! That is so funny about you having the exact same decorative iron shelf as the one in my master bath! I don't remember what I paid for it but HL was having a sale...I don't think I gave much for it.

Thanks so much for coming by, my friend!
Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Great post Linda! The pot & plants are gorgeous. Bet your old silver teapot without the handle would make an adorable plant pot.

Your fireplace is beautiful. I'd look for granite or stone tiles to update the existing tiles.

You've had fantastic luck at out thrifting! ☺ Diane
