Okay, okay! I know this isn't a mantel, but it is a coming attraction. This is the top for the base on the next picture.
The top sits on this base...not too attractive, but it will be. I saw it at Goodwill for $89 and thought about it for hubby's office (even though I can see plates on the top part...sigh). I went back a week later and it had been marked down to $60, and I tested the drawers for sturdiness, and noticed the Ethan Allen trademark on the inside, so I decided it was time for it to come live at our house. Hubby is such a good sport and will sand, paint, repair, etc. anything for me. He never met a piece of wood he didn't like (and all that he met live in our basement!). Oh, it's missing a shelf, but no problem for Mr. Carpenter-Man. The bottom 4 drawers are really 2 deep drawers, so that will be nice for hubby.
Here he is giving it a coat of spray paint after having sanded a little. I think he's getting excited about this piece! I'll have it ready to show by next Monday (or maybe sooner).
Okay, so here is the Hunt Scene that hung over the mantel for 29 years! Love the hunt scene, but it's time for a change. Hunt Scene has moved to the dining room.
So we went with a mirror. Don't know why it looks smudgey in the pic, because it is clean. Anyway, a plain mirror would have reflected the ceiling - boring! So I ran across this mirror at Hobby Lobby and it had 4 small medallions and is in pieces.
I'm liking it.
Add 2 olive tree topiaries with lemons.
And now 2 French lanterns......I splurged on these - really love them and they are so cute at Christmas with red candles and ribbon.
Now I need a touch of blue....how about this platter?
It's nice for a change. It actually looks better in real life than in this pic, so y'all come on over. Hope your week is off to a great start (yawn, time change!), and don't forget to stop by Susan's at Between Naps on the Porch for some great ideas. Blessings, Linda

I'm likin' that man of yours. Isn't that a blessing that he's so handy to have around! I can tell already I'm going to like that goodwill find of yours. I like the way you showed step by step the transformation of your fireplace mantle. Good job girlfriend!
Wow, can't wait to see your finished project. I have so much of that Ethan Allen pine furniture that as popular 30+ years ago. You may just give me some ideas.

Your GW treasure looks just fabulous and painted black it will be just gorgeous. I can't wait to see the finished project. The new mirror is beautiful. I love the shape and that it's different mirrors instead of just one sheet. The new arrangement over the mantel is just gorgeous. Great job. Hugs, Marty
What a fantastic find at Goodwill and your mantle looks fantastic also! May I ask what kind of sprayer your hubby is using? It looks a little different from the one we have.

Can't wait to see the finished project -- I think a touch of blue needs to be in every room. And I love mirrors above fireplaces -- especially if there is a chandelier to be reflected in it!
Being married to a hunter, I do love hunt scenes, but your new mirror and mantel accessories really uptdate things!!
Love what you did to the mantel, Linda! I really like the topiaries and the lanterns. What a good buy on that Ethan Allen cabinet, you know with that brand, it's a sturdy one. Can't wait to see what your hubby does....Christine

The mantle looks just beautiful, you did a wonderful job. Love that mirror! And can't wait to see what you did with the incredible bargain you found. Kathy
Hi...your mantel redo looks so fresh and very well balanced. The hunt scene was gorgeous so I'm glad you're able to use it in your dining room. What a find on the GW piece! ;-) Bo
Years ago, I had one of my side tables and my coffee table dipped. I then had to use bleach to get more of the color out. I waxed them with Brix wax. Not sure where the coffee table is now (I think one of my boys took it to college), but I am still using the side table.
OOOoohhh, love all the changes....looking forward to seeing your "new" Ethan Allen piece!!
What a guy your hubby is!
Suzanne
I love the piece for hubby's office...and...I love GOODWILL.
Great looking mantel...
Great choice for today! Happy Monday!
Love your GW piece. And, wow, you got hubby into the black spray paint mode too! Amazing what a can of black spray paint can transform. Can't wait to see the finished product.
Thanks for sharing,

Looks great! And what a deal you got by just waiting a little bit. Isn't it maddening when the photos don't do justice to the image. Grrrr I have the same problem sometimes.
Now that's a great piece to find a Goodwill! Can't wait to see the finished project! :)
What a great buy that furniture piece was. I can't wait to see the final result. Your mantle looks so pretty. That mirror is so unique, and it is perfect there. Great job. laurie
