A Mantel and a Priceless Treasure

First, "un grand merci" to my friend Debbie at Confessions of a Plate Addict who created my new blog header. I just love it, and it's all her idea! Thanks, Debbie!

I wanted to change up my winter mantel. But first, let me say that my walls are not the screaming yellow banana color that it appears! They are a soft, warm mustard color - Benjamin Moore #198. Also, that is NOT a psychadelic (sp?) lantern on the left! It is some weird sort of reflection from the French doors off to the right. That being said.....before

Inspiration from Pottery Barn

After.....

All the white containers are GW finds - $1, $2,, $4.......all the greenery (except for one piece) is stuff I had.

Do you think it looks better with or without the books in the center? The cleaner, bookless look is more like the PB inspiration.

My Priceless Treasure....my 3 grandies started picking flowering weeds and brought me piece after piece, telling me that the flowers would help me remember that they love me......Aww....gulp.....lump in my throat....what a treasure!

I am linking up to some great parties. Be sure and drop by each site. These ladies are some very creative hostesses who will have lots of people joining them
Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for Met Monday
Rhoda at Southern Hospitality for Today's Thrifty Treasures
Marty at A Stroll Thru Life for Tabletop Tuesday
Linda at Coastal Charm for Thifty Nifty Tuesday

Hope you have an outstanding springey week! Blessings to you. Linda

Linda,
Now you have gone and done a wonderful job on your mantel...looks just like PB! I think I like it without the books, but the books don't look bad. Please tell Debbie that she did an awesome job on your header...I LUV IT!

Blessings,
Linda

Hi Linda! I'm glad you like your header! And I LOVE your new mantel...but can't decide about the books! I like it both ways! And...your "priceless treasure" is the best gift I have ever seen! Aren't grandies wonderful? Happy weekend...hugs...Debbie

Hi Linda!
I think both your mantels look better than the one in the magazine. But I must confess the one with the books adds a little more character and interest to the vignette.
Warmest hugs,

Your mantle looks beautiful Linda. I like it with the books, but I would have books everywhere if I could get away with it:) The gift from your grandies is too sweet. And Debbie did a beautiful job on your new header - love it! Kathy

I actually would like your mantle better without the greenery in the white pieces. And you definately need something in the center, but I'm not sure the books are doing it. Good luck-it takes a lot of trial and error to get it right, doesn't it?

Linda, I like the books there. I think yours looks better than P.B.! I'm covinced that y'all have the best GW in the world! Such a sweet story about the grands. Aren't they just the best? Your header is perfect. laurie

Nice makeover. I like the books, but not all together. Why not stick one under a few of the pots, but leave three in the center.

I hope you'll drop by AtticMag to see Jane's Met Monday post.

I disagree with a previous commenter- I think that the books in the middle of the mantel look fantastic stacked and topped with the fleur de lis. And I like the white pieces filled w/the "weeds." What a great transformation! So fresh, so new- all perfect for spring.

The mantle is very attractive, and the weed bouquet expressing love is priceless.

Just stopping by and thought I'd leave a comment, hope you don't mind.

Your mantle looks GREAT! You can't go wrong with any type of PB look but I think I like it bookless. Either way it's beautiful!

I took a quick look around your blog and I'll be back! Our decorating tastes and ideas are similar. It looks like you have a beautiful decorating style.

Take care and have a wonderful weekend!

Hi Linda,
I LOVE your mantel...Your mirror is GORGEOUS!!!! I liked your mantel before and it's really neat after too. I always like to use books, so my vote is to keep the books. However, if you get tired of that look, it does look great without them as well. Thanks for sharing! I also think you did very well getting your white vases at GW!

Oh I love the white pottery. Layla from The lettered cottage took some colorful pottery and spray painted them white- thats a great thrifty way to add pottery!
