A Furniture Collision becomes an office/bedroom

We inherited some furniture from my MIL (fortunately my sweet mother-in-law is still with us - only at assisted living now) and it had to mix in with a room that was an office/bedroom wannabe! What do you do with uncoordinated pieces that are stained, painted black, and painted white???? I'm joining Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for Met Monday. Thanks, Susan for your faithfulness in hosting this party, as well as all the wonderful ideas you and other participants share with blogland!

Phooey - I forgot my "before" pics again, but it was midnight when I started this project, so I was not thinking clearly! I want you to know that I moved EVERY piece of furniture in this room myself (thanks to those little saucer thingeys). I wanted to surprise hubby the next morning!

First, I had to ditch a white bookcase that was in the room. It is now in a closet upstairs.

This is the view looking in from the hall.

From the left of the doorway you see one of my favorite paintings done by my MIL.
Next, hubby's table/desk (messy - genius at work!), along with MIL's corner cabinet. (We are going to put some manly things in it, but I just wanted to get rid of the bare look for this pic.)

Next is my FIL's chair that was given to him on his retirement almost 40 years ago. Beside it is a little table that belonged to my FIL's sister.

On that table I put a photo album I made on hubby's birthday a few years ago - it has pics beginning from his birth through today! Also, a globe, a big vase with corks, and a bottle.

This bottle was given to my FIL at the end of WWII. One of the men who served under him made it and gave it to him. How did he get the cross inside??? Anyway, it meant a lot to my FIL when it was given to him some 60+ years ago.

Now we move on over to the bookcase painted black.

And then the white iron bed.

OK, that's it. If you could have seen it before, you would really be impressed with this transformation. Hubby loved it so much that he told me three different times the next day!!!
I still can't believe I moved that furniture - call me Wonder Woman! Have a great Monday! Blessings to you. Linda

Oh, it turned out wonderful. How fantastic that it is big enough for both uses. I love the table as a desk and the china cabinet is perfect in the corner. The bed and bookcase are just perfect too. What a great job on making it all work and look so good. The cross in the bottle is truly a treasure. Enjoy your beautiful new room. Hugs, Marty

Good job, Linda! Everything looks so nicely coordinated! And kudos to you for your muscle power! I love your vase of corks! I saw a big gallon bag of them at my Q of H for $20. But I still can't figure out what to do with mine! Happy week!...hugs...Debbie

Motivated women can move mountains!! You did a great job integrating it all. I know it means a lot to your husband to have special things around. The crucifix inside the bottle is so unique--wondering about things like that makes me crazy :) Thanks for sharing this!

Linda, this room must be huge! Everything fits in beautifully, but it does not look at all crowded. It looks to me like you purchased the furniture to go in this room! Your m-i-l is a talented lady-how wonderful that you have some of her paintings. And how special that chair of your f-i-l's is. I can understand why your husband was so pleased. It will be wonderful for him to be able to sit at his desk and be surrounded by all of these beautiful memories. Oh, and I love the pillows on the pretty iron bed too! (I use those Moving Men Discs too, and they make me feel like I can move mountains)! laurie

I am trying to go back and forth between the old blog and the new, while I am getting through all my followers. I am super close to closing down my old blog.
