Welcome to my first Metamorphosis Monday hosted by Susan at Between Naps on the Porch.Be sure to visit her blog to see her beautiful home and get lots of wonderful ideas.
My dear daughter was over this weekend and took pity on my oak cupboard and agreed with me that it needed some help. Once upon a time it was filled with blue and white plates, however, when we got the new sound system, we couldn't decide where to put it. Much to my chagrin, the only place was in my plate filled cupboard. (See the two ugly black pieces of equipment.)

So daughter, being a very creative soul, thought outside the box and relocated some of our favorite pictures to brighten up the dark space. She also turned my books around to show white pages instead of covers (my new favorite thing to do)....and voilà.....I like it so much better.

While I was entertained her children (2 of my 6 grandies), she also decided to re-do my vaisselier...she didn't like the lamp blocking the plates, the lack of harmony, and the clutter.
I liked it.......

So, this is the finished project, and you know what? I like it better....cleaner.....more balanced....easier on the eye. Also, she was able to bring in my soup tureen (a recent flea market find at $12) and a little white porcelain basket (clearance at Ross - $3.49).

This picture allows a better view of the little white basket on the bottom shelf. Oh, the dishes are part of a service for 12 that my favorite aunt gave me. I really do love them - I always think of her when I see them.
Well, I appreciate my daughter's work and love the changes. However, I almost didn't get this blog posted because I just got back from my sister's house where I rearranged 2 hutches, a bookcase, and her coffee tablescape! (I am not pushy - she asked!).

You daughter did a beautiful job! I love the tureen, I'm on the hunt... Have you considered covering posterboard with fabric or paper for the backs of your shelves? I was just admiring another blogger's shelves today. I think she used a toile fabric. ♥ Diane
How sweet of your daughter to re-do your shelves.
Sometimes it is easier to do others instead of our own!
Salut mon amie..alors, tu es arrivée à finir! Et que c'est joli! Mindy est une très bonne fille à sa mère! A demain...Debbie
Linda, isn't it amazing how just a little tweaking can make a big difference? I, also, think it is soooo cool how we can look at something and don't quite know what to do with it and yet someone else can fix it right up...like your daughter did for you and like you did for your sister! Love this MM post! Susan
How lucky of you to have a daughter who would do those things for you. In our family, it's the other way around, lol. I love the changes and I love the set of plates that your aunt gave you. They are truly lovely!....Christine
Such great transformations. Your daughter is as talented as you are. Isn't it wonderful to have her come and change things around. I always love another pair of eyes to imagine something different. Looks beautiful. Hugs, Marty
What a wonderful daughter you have! She did an outstanding job on both pieces! I love those dishes too!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
What a sweetie! She did a wonderful job on these. I love that soup tureen, what a find. And your vaisselier is gorgeous. Kathy
Hey, Shelia, I play piano & keyboard at my church, too. Don't you just love it?! Thanks for stopping by. Linda
she did a great job. I had to LOL at the thought of either of my daughters doing this. They have picked up 0 decorating talents, not that I have many..but they have 0. I try to help them but they arent into domestic yet. I hope soon, they will be 24 this year!
GM Linda..love what your daughter did..and it so great when you have someone who can see things differ than you..I have a daughter that will come here and say things like Mom why is that there etc?? next thing I know we are redoing the house..she leave and I am tired..hugs and smiles Gl♥ria
What a make-over, your daughter did a wonderful job. She is very talented and has a great eye.
It's amazing the difference even
though no $$$ was spent.
Please send your daughter to my house
She definitely has an eye for placement! Everything looks great. I love that this Before and After was a no cost solution. Very inspiring!
~Michelle
Beautiful job, such a talent to have an "eye" for display! I love your dishes.
Hi Nina!
What a fun project and change you all created! Well done. I love finding thrift store bargains! The dishes your aunt gave you are wonderful...
Sorry I called you Nina but I see your name is Linda...
Silly me.
Ellen,
You can call me Nina, Nana, Linda or even Hey You! By the way, I loved your pantry re-do. I'm inspired to go forth and do the same!
Your daughter did a wonderful job! She has an eye for detail! ~Rhonda :)
Hi Linda! Thanks for dropping by for a visit! Yesterday I read some of Pat @ Back Porch Musings posts & fell in love again with fabric foamcore backing on her shelves. Here's the link: http://backporchmusings.blogspot.com/2008/09/nesting.html
Susan had a post with Carol's beautiful cabinet, http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/2008/12/welcome-to-eighteenth-tablescape.html.
You can see how I'm fixated on the idea... I have a bookshelf that needs a re-do, but haven't tackled the sanding & painting, etc yet....
♥ Diane
This was a very nice and cost effective transformation. I think your assessment of your vasselier looking better balanced is dead on.
It is very difficult to hide or disguise electronics. About the most you can hope to achieve is to make them as unobtrusive as possible, and you've done that. Now the pictures and books dominate the shelves instead of your sound system.
Send her over here! I am having accessorising block! Great job.
Can you put your electronics in the cabinets below, that is an option too? But look so much better just with things with them.
Nice!
Linda
It's fun to see what a new set of eyes will do for a new look. Sometimes when I change things, I think I like it better when I really just probably like that it is different. Both of your daughter's projects turned out great! laurie
I told your "daughter" that I thought it was so fun that you had your own blog now! She told me to post - that would make you so excited! UM....YOU HAVE 22 POSTS! That is more than I've EVER had!!! Good job! People love you already!
