I love my grandies, but I'm having an identity crisis!

Who am I? Why did I chose this blog name? Long story......

I first chose "Lily" as my grandmother (and mother-in-law) name...why? because my name is Linda and I figured it was a classy name that started with "L" and would be fun. After re-thinking and realizing that I could end up being called "yee yee" or worse..."wee wee" I searched around. I couldn't be "Meme" because that was my mother's grandmother/great-grandmother name, and "Grammy" was out because that was the name of my 2 beloved grandmothers.

So I picked "Nana" (like the dog in Peter Pan). Being a Southern gal, I thought the name was a little British or Yankee sounding, but, hey, it was one of the easiest things to say...after "mama" and "dada". So "Nana" was it.

Things were rolling along fine with the first grandchild calling me "Nana". Still "Nana" when the twins came along and then another little grandie arrived and I am still "Nana". I'm thinking that this is so fun, and when they get older, they can call me "Nan" and I will feel young again (vanity!). Until.....one of the twins started calling me "Nina" (yes, like the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria). The next thing I knew, both twins were calling me "Nina", and the youngest talking grandchild joined in with the name change to "Nina". Meanwhile, the first grandie is hanging in there with "Nana". Well, what's a grandmother to do? You guessed it.....ANSWER TO ANYTHING!!

The two youngest grandies aren't talking yet, so the jury's out on them.

So, for now my site is Nina's Nest......but I can't promise you it won't be Nana's Nest or who knows what!

Identity crisis wouldn't begin to explain my feelings. I would probably be schizoid. I think you came up with a good compromise.

That is such a cute post, Linda. I have 2 grandkids and one is just starting to talk. "Lola" is grandma in our language but the older one started calling me lala when she was small and it stayed that way. Now, the little one calls me "awa"..Thnaks for visiting my blog. I just started it today so you're one of the first visitors...Christine
