Back Porch & Bargains

Well, it's hot here in the south, but I'm getting my porch and deck refreshed with some sewing projects and some bargains. We just have to enjoy the outdoor rooms in the early morning or when the sun goes down.

I have seen so many fun projects in Blogland where people have painted chairs, etc., whimsical colors. I decided that apple green would tie in well with my refreshed cushions on the porch and deck. Sooooooo, this little chair has been hanging out in my basement, drab and neglected for about 8 years.
One can of apple green spray paint later.....

Isn't she cute!
We have a deck that extends the length of the house on the back. Hubby decided (very wisely) to roof part of it to make it comfortable in the afternoon sun. This is the open deck part. The all-weather chairs have new cushions.....er.....one new cushion and one folded fabric. I just finished recovering the chair cushion on the left. Let me just say.....if anyone asks, "Do you make box pillows with piping?" RUN THE OTHER WAY. Argh! I am quitting sewing for a while. I'll finish later today (maybe). What a pain! (Why does the window box on the left look 4 times fuller than the one on the right??Same sun....same direction??)
The petunias in the window box (I promise they are there!) are re-grouping, resting, and getting ready for another bloom (I hope!).

This is the part of the deck that is covered....yeah! That's a little GW wicker table from last year.

And the black tole-wanna-be tray was $1 last year at a church sale.

On the baker's rack I found a brown wooden candlestick....I used the famous Heirloom White paint and then distressed it a little. Next to it is a flea market find - a children's wicker lunch basket. I used it for a plant holder. You won't believe what Debbie at Confessions of a Plate Addict has done with a large one. I'll probably be copying that soon. It is gorgeous!

The lanterns and white container holding the red flowers are all from garage sales last year.

Oh, my grandies adore the swing, so it stays up ALL the time!

The large wicker basket on the bottom shelf holds my grandies' bubble containers and refill.
You've gotta have that in the summer!

OK, this little cutie almost hit the trash can or GW. She is a rather large ceramic turtle that I have had for about 30 years. She used to have ceramic shoes, but they broke sometime back and I almost got rid of her. But now she has some ivy and sits on top of the sand box container for my grandies. I'm glad I kept her.

See her there.....this is the fun area for my grandies.

Hope you enjoyed visiting my porch. Thanks to all of you for sharing so much inspiration. I'm a good copy cat!

It is all very lovely and looks so very LIVABLE! I really, really like it all.

I also appreciate the fact that you "keep it real" with special little things for your grand-kids. The touches of childhood make it all the more charming!

I love your deck! You are very brave to attempt those box pillows with pipping. I have similar chairs and pillows, which will need covering next year...thanks for the heads up. Love the green chair too. Yvonne :)

Your deck is beautiful, Linda. I love that apple green chair.

Looks like you have some nice trees in your yard. Beautiful setting!

I just saw Debbie's basket. So cute! Great idea.

What a great looking deck! I love how you have it all decorated like an indoor room. I want my husband to cover part of our patio like yours is done. Everything is beautiful!

Oh what fun things you did to your porch! Love the wicker, the plants, and that green chair!! Spray paint works wonder on everything, doesn't it? You're a good pal to Debbie, too. I told her I saw the very same idea yesterday at the show I was at. I bought a basket earlier in the week, too! Both yours and hers look great with the flowers/plants in them. I, myself, would probably go for the succulents. Even my brown thumb might just let them survive!! *grin*

I think the swing and the sandbox are soooo cute!

It is hot isn't! I've been avoiding go out all day but just went out to water my droopy hydrangeas and I'm sweaty just from that!

Your porch looks fabulous! Love the apple green chair and all your other fun touches. The cushions are wonderful! Wish I knew how to make some!

What a comfortable and inviting area. I think you chose a perfect shade of green for your chair.
Isn't it funny how some things (your shoeless turtle) appeal to us again after a time of being over them.

Linda, it's beautiful! I love the colors & everything you've done. Those green swirly pillows are my fave, love that fabric. I know what you mean about sewing pillows & cording, I've been doing that too last week. You're so lucky to have part of your deck covered.

I finished up my deck & will be sharing on Tuesday. It really turned out great & I am loving sitting out there (except for this darn HEAT & humidity). I'm definitely getting a fan out there tomorrow.

Come back later & check out my new porch too. It's so much fun to have a nice outdoor space now (like yours!).

Oh to have such a porch! Although I do have a good size deck right off the french doors of my dining room, there are two 4 story tall Hickory trees above and they drop so many things!! Live and dead things..lol
Sun and heat.. no chance to screen in because of the trees..but yours is just so relaxing and beautiful... nice!

I love your porch!! Love your colors out there too. I especially love the green and wanted to incorporate that this year, but ended up with the red pillows. As far as the rugs, they have held up really well and I've had them almost three years. I pressure wash them once a season. They are not outdoor rugs either, and they don't have the rubber backing, which is a good thing because it would melt. They have not faded, and I have not had any issues with mold or mildew, and they do get wet when it rains. It's a pretty sunny area though in the afternoon. Maybe they would not work as well where the sun never shines. They were really inexpensive, so I thought it was worth a try.
