I know that's sort of a dorky title for a table makeover and a thrifty chair, but, hey, I'm desperate! It's time for Susan's Met Monday (
Between Naps on the Porch) and Rhoda's Thrifty Treasures (
Southern Hospitality), and I always love to join these events, because these gals are so clever, as are a gazillion of you out in Blogland.

I didn't get to do any garage saling this weekend because of this: baking with some VIPs (aka grandies)...

Climbing Stone Mountain.....

And popping some corn! By the way, my grandie is demonstrating the Whirley Pop. People, I've got to tell you that my daughter, son, and I ALL have one. I have seen them at GW on 3 occasions - 2 of them NEVER USED! I figure that the people who donated them must have never given them a try. Listen to me - go get one for the best popcorn ever. Now, I know that some of you live for microwave popcorn, but one try with the Whirley Pop and you will never go back to the microwave! All that to say, I let 2 of them go by, but finally bought the 3rd one for a back up - at $2 & change it is a BARGAIN.

OK, my guest room has become a grandie dormitory, so we have to let style go a little bit. The room is sort of crammed with a double bed and a crib. I had slipcovered a desk, but it got moved to the foot of the bed (not so great) to make room for the crib.

So, for free!, I shopped my basement and dug out this Ethan Allen (1969) coffee table from our first apartment.

This table traded places with the slip covered desk (banished to the basement for now) AFTER it was painted black. I stuck some baskets in the empty spaces (the middle has a door that might stay off), and I think I like the effect, as well as practicality. I need to replace the one on the left with one to match the other two.

I was going to make a cushion out of ticking, but I might use my quilted pillow tops that are placed on top of the table for now. Do you have any suggestions? The room is basically black and white toile, b&w check, and b&w ticking.

OK, this is a story. I have noticed some of you have found rolling office chairs and thought that would be nice at hubby's desk. I saw one for $20 at a thrift store and scrutinized it so much that I didn't get it. Found a gorgeous leather classic office chair on craiglist for $95 (originally around $1000) and told hubby about both of them about 3 days later. He surprised me by saying he would prefer an old wooden chair!!! The thrift store was closed for 2 days, so I went back the next time it was open, fully expecting that it would be gone. I walked in and there it was. I went over to it, wiggled the arms (a little loose, but hubby can repair ANYTHING) and they announced all furniture was 50% off! I said SOLD in a loud voice. So here is hubby's $10 rolling chair that he loves.

I was thinking of painting it black, but the green distressing looks great with my fabrics in this office/bedroom!

Wow--the black paint totally changed that table/love it!
Yes, I think the chair looks perfect left "as is".
great post...
Love the painted coffee table! It doesn't even look Colonial anymore. Great job & that desk chair was a steal. I see lots of bloggers finding those lately.
May I go shopping in your basement. Love the table. Desk chair is nice.
The chair looks great in the distressed green. I may have to go find one of those...I just love the way it looks!
And that table. Oh my goodness...I would have passed up on that table, but now that I see what you did with it...wow. A complete makeover. Nicely done!
I love that office chair! Can't believe what you paid for it.
What a great deal on that desk chair! I love those old wooden ones. That coffee table doesn't even look like the same one, after you painted it! It looks totally different, and just gorgeous with those baskets!
Love the way you used the baskets for added storage. Great idea. The black really changes that table.
Salut Linda! Je vois que tu as trouvé la chaise pour Monsieur B! Et j'adore la table! Mais...que tu t'es promenée jusqu'en haut de la Montagne de Pierre...incroyable! Je n'arriverais pas à le faire! Belle photo! Bonne semaine!...Debbie
I love, love, love the redo on the coffee table. Now I know what my next project will be; looking for an old table to makeover like yours.
Thanks for sharing.

Linda,
You did a fabulous transformation on your coffee table. It looks very Pottery Barn-ish now! I have never heard of a Whirley Pop before, but if I ever seen one at a good price you can be sure I will snatch it up.
Cathy
That coffee table transformation is stunning!
I am really digging the new green chair. I understand why you were thinking black, but the green with natural distressing is so unique.
Your projects came out beautifully... I really loved them... Can you buy that corn popper anywhere... we love popcorn and I think that would be great for us to use... The kids look like they are having so much fun. Have a fun filled weekend Linda.

Its like the table was waiting all these years to be repurposed :D
Oh! I really like the table painted black. I have been using a little black paint lately also. Know what you mean - my spare room becomes a dormitory often also. Everything looks great.
I remember the table! Looks great in black and the baskets! Why not throw a little red in on it with the toile or ticking! Love the chair!
That table looks amazing! I am seriously loving all the toile too
Wow! I love your Ethan Allen table painted black. Taking the doors off was such a great idea and adding those baskets gives it an entirely new look!
Great find with the office chair. I like the green too! Fits perfectly!
LOVE how you turned the coffee table into an end of the bed bench. It looks great!!!
Oh so nice I love both the table & chair cushion.
Blessings,
Linda
I love it all...especially the black coffee table.
I bought a corn popper like yours about 4 yrs ago at a flea market for $2.00...been using it ever since and we stopped buying microwave popcorn 4 years ago!!
Hi Linda,
I love what you did to the coffee table, we had one like that and donated it to charity. Now, I want it back! I so love your toile bedroom and the chair is like the one my hubby redid and we got it for $10 too! Great minds must think alike! Hugs, Cindy
I like the green color of the desk chair, Linda, glad you did not paint it. But that table, wow! You sure have a great vision!...Christine
You are just too clever! Love the fantastic coffee table reinvention! Great idea! Fantastic find with the wood chair too! ☺ Diane
Cute transformation of the coffee table. I think you should make a coordinating cushioned top to tie it in w/the bedding. It's a really cute room- I like b/w. Glad to see you kept the chair in its original state- looks more vintage. Thanks for stopping by to comment today.
:-) Sue
It's lovely! And I think the ticking cushion would be perfect, I adore the chair too.
Love the table redo! Terrific idea!
Linda, the coffe table transformation came out fabulous! I'm with you, leave the middle doors off! The chair looks great in green! Great choice!
Great transformations! Thanks for sharing!

I used to have a coffee table like that one, sold it years ago in a garage sale, wish I still had it so I could copy your idea. Love the chair too, I on't think ny hubby would though, he needs a new padded one for his office though. Will have to keep my eye out for one. You have some darling grandkids. Marla
Oh Wow Linda...love the coffee table turned storage bench....how clever & stylish!
What a great gramma you are! Wonderful that you make time for everyone, hubby, grandie and all :)
The black coffee table w/baskets is just an amazing transformation. Shopping the basement---great!!
I love the wooden chair---Love it and what an amazing deal. So glad it was there when you went back.
Your room for the grandies is beautiful, no doubt about that! The old coffee table looks great black. And how about just folding a quilt or coverlet to fit and using it as a "bench" cushion?
Brenda
I love your table transformation- it looks fabulous! And that desk chair, wowee- love it!!
Table looks great!
Great chair.
Love the twirly pop...grab some luanne's coconut oil at walmart and use that...old time movie popcorn.

Hi Linda! What cute little grands you have! I've never heard of that kind of a pop corn popper, but I know the kernels are so much better than microwaved!
Oh, I had a coffee table almost just like yours! How clever to take the door off and paint it black! I love it! Now that olden green chair is great and it does look good with your fabrics! Men! :)
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
What fun and what great ideas. I am now on a quest for a popcorn popper like that!
My favorite part of this post was when you shouted 'Sold' at GW.
I have done that a million times!
Laura
Wow! More great bargains! What a transformation to that coffee table. It looks so fresh and "in". And what a deal on your husband's chair. I like the green paint. Your grands are precious. (All of my blog post titles are dorky, but then I really think I'm a dork). laurie
