A Guest, a Birthday, and some Treasure

Today's the day that the very faithful Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) and Rhoda (Southern Hospitality) host these two fun events. There are always lots of makeover and thrifty finds from these two gals, and lots of great bloggers sending great ideas our way. Go check 'em out!

This is a guest post - Carrie, a friend of my D & DIL, took this tired memo board.....

and turned it in to this - WOW!!!! Love it! Way to go, Carrie!

She was on a roll, and took this plain lampshade....

Added some trim, toned down the brassy bottom, and voilà!

Got to brag on my Daughter-I-L who took some bolts of fabric and made these fabulous silk draperies for Carrie (featured above). They swapped services - some speech therapy for a child for some draperies - clever, huh?!

My Daughter took a box of cake mix (baked it) and some icing, mixed them all together and came up with this for grandson #2's first birthday. Aren't the pigs and chicks cute?! Actually the pig is supposed to be a cow, but we think he looks like a pig!

And then she created this darling cow - oops, forgot to snap a pic before the first bite! Cute, huh?

Some garage sale finds - tablecloth and 8 napkins for $5 - from Avignon - south of France!

With 6 grandies 5 and under, I was glad to get this Radio Flyer -$5- switches from a low rider....

to a tricycle - cool, huh?! They'll be fighting over this one!

Pretty magazine/book holder for $4.

Large Oneida footed silver tray with handles for - drum roll, please - $4!!

Debbie at Confessions of a Plate Addict told me how great the new Julia movie is, and we saw it last night - wowwie! Loved it! Julia was the best! Fortunately, I have this wonderful cookbook with Julia Child and Jacques Pépin - they are hilarious together. Her famous Boeuf Bourguignon is in there, so I think I'll try it!

Have a wonderful Monday, and enjoy all the other great ideas at Susan's and Rhoda's. Oh, and go see that movie! Linda

Oh the table cloth picture took my breath away... Avignon is one of my most favorite villages in the world! (Well, except that I lost some travellers cheques there once)

The birthday goodies are adorable! Those cake balls are very popular right now.

PS. Thank you for your words of encouragement the other day. Truly meant a lot!

Hi Linda,
I've had this blog on my computer since some time earlier in the day, and can't remember now how I got here. Oh, I just glanced at my email and see that you commented on Lisannerosalie, so I must have liked what you said there.

You and the others you mention in this post have some great talent, and I like your finds.
