French Address Numbers - DIY

I've been wanting to get
some French address numbers....
you know, the white numbers on the blue background
that sell on average for $49 each!
Debbie at Confessions of a Plate Addict and I have been talking for quite some time
about how to make them.
Aimee at Twiggs Studios  had a tutorial on making
metal numbers using aluminum soft drink cans.
I copied her method (cutting the can and flattening it to a sheet of aluminum).
Then I painted   1.75 inch x 3 inch rectangles dark blue.
(sorry about the blurry pic)

Debbie always knows just how to do the fine details   In a previous post, she did a tutorial on making French number tags.  She used the Modern #20 font which I found out that I have on my computer!
I painted the number freehand with a paint pen.  This is my first try, and I will work on getting a better number next time.

Debbie also suggested
painting the number with Mod-Podge
to give it a shiney look.
That was just the right touch.
After punching holes in the corners,
I attached the number with wire to a basket
I already had.
I think I'll try a double number next....
maybe one with the white outline.
but if you are going to try this,
a single number is a good starting point.
Blessings,
Linda

That is so cool. If you ever want real ones I found a bunch on ebay.

Great job, Linda! It turned out great! I can't believe that was a soda can. With my shaky hands, I would probably use a stencil {which I have plenty of} or a vinyl.

What a thrifty idea, using a soda can, looks great on your basket.
