Our basement has been a dark hole
with 4 lightbulbs
scattered about....not inspiring
for someone who needs to organize, throw out, give away, etc.
The BEST thing we did was have large light fixtures installed,
making it bright, cheery, and inviting us to come down there!
If you are looking for a swanky man-cave, this is not the post or the place.
(Although, I have some manly plans for Mr. Nest's office area.)
This is a conservative, DIY project...practical for our needs,
and done on a budget.
Step 1 - install lighting!
Step 2 - Mr. Nest began to wall off the areas
that we wanted....storage wall, storage room,
shop, and large multifunctional room for
office and play area for grandies.
Just having the area defined makes it appear larger.
Step 3 - Get walls painted
Step 4 - Put down flooring.
We chose a vinyl wood look alike from Home Depot.
It is a "floating" floor - with peel and stick planks.
We chose a lighter wood - sort of a farmhouse look -
with knot-holes.
With all the activity down there, the lighter floor will
look larger, PLUS it will not show dust like a dark floor would.
I know dark is popular, but we are being practical.
The floor is finished.
Next, Mr. Nest will sheetrock the white cement block wall with the
door to the crawl space, put on door hardware, put down base and shoe mold.
Come back and see our
ongoing progress!
Blessings,
Linda

Wow, it looks like you've got some great space down there, Linda! We finished our basement in our first house {many years ago} and even with no entrance outside, it was the best thing we ever did in that house. We got so much more living space in a 3 bedroom ranch having that basement. I'm looking forward to seeing more!
What a huge basement, I can't wait to see it finished! Oh my, the things you can do with a basement like that~
Your space is transforming to functional very quickly! We have a finished in-law suite that was my parents, but I would love to have the exterior door like yours.
Oh I would love to have all that space. What a great area it is going to be. Can't wait to see more. Love that floor. Hugs,Marty
How nice. Y'all have been busy. Wish I had all that room for my stuff.
Linda...it looks so neat and clean and organized. That's all I would ask for! Great job so far. Love the flooring!
XO,
Jane
What a change! You are going to really enjoy your time down there.
Have a beautiful weekend ~

You've made great progress on this project! When it's complete, this will be such a nice addition to the living space in your home. I'm looking forward to updates!
Looking real good Linda! LOVE that floor!
OH it looks great Linda! You've got so much storage space and now a soon to be family room!
We only have a partial basement in this house and I hate it. I need more storage and a full basement really does make a difference!
Hugs friend,
Cindy
Hi Nina, Thanks for coming by and looking at my basement. You're basement is looking so good and it does feel good to have things organized, doesn't it? The other side of our basement is a family room and there's a sewing room and laundry room too.
Having a basement gives you so much more space :)
Great floor choice!
I just found your blog today and was so impressed, not just with your basement but with all your past posts (well, I didn’t look at all of them, but the ones I did look at) great job. Looking forward to seeing your finished basement, won’t it be wonderful having so much more livable space. Your new blogging friend, Connie
It's all coming together so beautifully, Linda! I just laid that same flooring from HD in my entryway. I love the look, too! :)
