Christmas Ideas from the Flea Market

Yesterday Debbie (Confessions of a Plate Addict) and I
went to a long-awaited Christmas Open House
at a favorite flea market. (She's got some great pics!!!)
Last year our eyes nearly popped out at the entry
where we saw a huge, sparkling display of mercury glass and creamy white candles.
This year.....not so.....very different - attractive, but different.
See if you notice a theme.

I have a weakness for lanterns.  Love these!

Wouldn't this be fun to decorate for Christmas!

Love the whimsical reindeer candleholder!

Hang a crate on the wall and add some greenery!

Bottles filled with lights are pretty!
I plan on adding lights to a bird cage.

Beautiful old mantel...

Love the tobacco basket with the wreath inside!!

Easy to add Christmas to an open picnic basket...

Cute stocking with pretty white embroidered fabric...

Cute -  folding yardstick in the shape of a star!

Very clever use of a lampshade.....
rip off the old worn out fabric and
hang cookie cutters with red and green ribbon!
(But do you turn on the lamp??? Just wondering...)

No words needed here...

Love the feathers with greenery in a silver creamer....

So simple....just a small wreath with a  bow on a candelabra....

The top of this hutch sums up the theme.....
natural elements......
greenery, antlers, greenery, lanterns, greenery, feathers, greenery......

Do you miss the shiny mercury glass
and white sparkling candles, etc., of last year?
Do you think the low cost, natural look is tied into the challenging economy?
I remember the 70's, the recession, etc.
We decorated with popcorn and cranberry strings,
patchwork stockings, ornaments,
wooden items, etc., etc.,etc.
Just wondering.....
Blessings to you!
Linda

You know what I so enjoyed this tour, seriously. My parents are elderly and I don't get much chance to shop specialty stores...just Walmart and the grocery store...and I just loved seeing all the goodies you showed. Thank you so much. I too loved the mantel, dish cupboard...etc. It was wonderful! yay..
Blessings,
Debbie

Great pictures, Linda! I love the displays. I think it is more of a simplicity than a frugality, although I'm sure it does cost less to do simple.

Linda, thank you so much for this photographic tour. I love every moment of my visit and every photo.
I think I'll go bak and look at all these prettiest again just to jump start my weekend in a holiday mood.

Oh Linda, these are all gorgeous too, just like the mercury and white was. Since there have been so many tutorials on how to make mercury glass, I think we can have that look very inexpensively also. I loved all the ways she used the elements of nature too. Great pictures. Thanks for joining the party. Hugs, Marty

Oh...this was fun! I did notice the feathers and antlers...they are very popular now. I still love my candles and sparkly bling for the holidays. The natural look to me is textured fabrics and lots of greenery.

I fell in love with the white stocking. A grouping of them would be so pretty on my fireplace! What a lucky girl you are to have this shop!! Love it!

XO,
Jane

It all looks wonderful and makes one want to buy and buy. But my heart went out to the pine Welsh Cupboard full of that wonderful brown and white transfer, OMG. Thanks for letting me tag along. Richard from My Old Historic House.

I've done the natural look for years. I go out and gather greens and cones and berries from the side of the road and my backyard...spread them around the house and when the holidays are over I put them in a big bag and empty them on the compost area...no muss, no fuss! Some would call it laziness, I call it Yankee Frugality :)

Linda, I love, love all the natural elements. I've always used natural elements such as pinecones and fresh evergreens for Christmas decorating. I guess "my economy" must have been "recessed" for a long time. LOL Great photos and I still love the mercury glass of last year, too. Thanks for sharing the photos. Happy Sunday.

Love getting inspiration from photos like these. One look that I'd like to copy is the greenery in the silver pitcher with the pheasant feathers.

That hutch with the transerware stole my heart..but everything was beautiful..and so much of it was different!!

I'm w/ her. The transferware photo is stunning. I'd just like to move that photo (and all that's in it) to my house, please! I can't find an antler in NC. Went to the largest antique mall in the Charlotte area, and not a one to be found anywhere (but I am picky a/b it being 'hairless'). I have a friend that owns an antique store, and he hangs vintage ornaments from them. Had never thought of hanging cookie cutters, but would be a fun idea for a kitchen.

Thanks for the tour! Yes, I love greenery too and I agree that is usually affordable accomplished. Our Christmas decorating last year had an outdoorsy theme and this year we are using lots of greenery too.
