Living Room Redo - Free!

I want to show you a fabulous makeover
courtesy of my daughter
who has the greatest eye for
mantels, bookcases,
and tabletops.
A few weeks ago I posted this "after Christmas" mantel.
Then Daughter suggested bringing in more white.
OK, I can do that.

But something was not right.

Enter Daughter.....
She re-vamped the mantel from the floor up!

Tied on some burlap ribbon - love that stuff!

Next she rummaged through the house and put together
lots of green and white,
including a little bird "church",
topiaries, and lots of white candlesticks.

Everything (except the wreath, mirror, silver baby cup, and bird)
has been collected from GW.
I love the way she tied it all together.

She moved a little bench that used to be here and created a little vignette
with a desk and chair by the window.

Next - on to the bookcases.
She pulled lots of whites, neutrals, and greens together.
Amazingly, it is colorful, but pleasant and easy on the eye.

I've always loved this little painting by my MIL.
The antique white frame fits in perfectly,
along with another little GW lamp -
which really brightens up the bookcase.

I should have put in a "before" pic on this so that you could appreciate the difference.
However,
trust me, it is really soothing and cohesive.

Do you ever have a light bulb moment where you say,
"Hmmmmm, wonder if I ought to take the window treatment down?"
Daughter jumped on that idea, and before you knew it,
this......

became this....
sad story.....these are my new drapes from the dining room!
I'm going to have to make another pair!
I love red, but am amazed at how much more I like this room without it...
just some touches in the pillows.

Oh, one more thing.....
my piano, which was overflowing with stuff on top,
became reduced to this on the right corner....

Sooooooo much better, lighter, cleaner!!!

Do you have a daughter, daughter-in-law, sister, friend, etc.,
who can come to your house and do some
rearranging with "fresh eyes"?
I hope so.
I am loving the changes!! More to come!!
I'm joining

Blessings to you!

Linda,
Your daughter has some great talent...I so love what she has done here (I'm I right? Is she an AUBURN gal?). I really love that cute little bench in front of the fireplace...the burlap ribbon and the wreath hanging on the mirror.

Blessings,
Linda

Linda, your daughter did a great job. I love the new look. Doesn't that feel good to have a re-do like that. It always makes me feel like I'm in a new house!

Linda I would say your daughter definitely has the touch!! The designers touch. She thought of scale balance proportion texture and color a real natural!! Not everyone can do this so I would say maybe she needs to start thinking about doing this for a career!! Lucky YOU!!! Kathysue

I thought it looked good before, but now it definitely looks fresh and crisp with all the touches of white. I would certainly welcome someone coming here to my house and letting me leave for a few hours and coming back to see what they were able to do with fresh eyes seeing all the stuff I am so tired of seeing. I think we all suffer from that disease. LOL

She did a great job!!!

I always turn my books with the spine out, but after seeing some of your books with the pages out; I'm on a mission to change a few. Thanks for the inspiration! Plus, just this a.m. while I was in the shower, I looked up at a red valance in the bath window and thought - I'm going to take that down. Amazing the change! Sally

Hi Linda, your daughter is extremely talented--she took a beautiful room and made it even more attractive! Of course, it's nice to think she got some of that talent from her mom! :) I especially love the lanterns on the floor near the fireplace and the white drapes. Very nice--send her to me! Linda

The white accents, the floor around the hearth, the pretty vignettes...your daughter has quite the touch. She and my daughter could be the best of friends. While I was gone the other day, she took the Christmas tree down and put all the remaining holiday decor away and then did her magic with rearranging and making her own vignettes. I am so proud of her and don't know what I would do without her inspiration! I know you must feel the same way, too.

XO,
Jane

Amazing how changing the curtains helped change the feel of the room, but that is my favorite part of your makeover. I love how you and your daughter brought in all the white pieces to make your room feel so cozy and homey from using what you had.
