Isn't the wood gorgeous!I just love the detail.

I got some linen fabric for $3 per yard - yes, you heard me right! A total of $6 for 3 chairs - that's worth giving it a try myself. I stapled it on. Not bad so far.

And there she is......hmmmm, well, almost. I am trying to decide what to use around the bottom of the chair....gimp? braid? or double piping? After looking through lots of magazines, I noticed that double piping seems to be very popular and very pretty. Have you ever made double piping or upholstered? Any tips or advice (other than take it to the professional!)? I am going to get a double piping presser foot.

I am thinking that either the chair is very plain now, OR perhaps with the neutral fabric, the wood can take center stage and be the focal point. Whaddaya think? I guess this is a 3/4 metamorphosis!

I love clocks....having taught school, I have been "by the clock" for too many years. I love this little "Big Ben" from the flea market. No batteries! You just wind 'er up! Love that!

This little baby mantel clock and silver candlestick were also flea market purchases.

Now this wonderful clock was free.....another special thing from my MIL. It stood in her grandmother's kitchen over 100 years ago and it still "bongs"!

That baby mantle clock is precious and how wonderful to have a working wind up clock!
The many gifts from you MIL are beautiful.
Wonderful chairs Linda.
I have a couple chairs with curvy seats that I'd like to reupholster. I love the double piping idea. I am not skilled enough to attempt it.
I am looking forward to seeing your finished chairs. The neutral fabric is beautiful.
OMG those chairs are gorgeous. Great detail. Those will look nice when you finish them. You could stencil something on the seat if you wanted to. Love your other finds, too and love how you have them displayed.
I think if you put a small colorful pillow on the chair it will give it the pop you are looking for. :)
Thanks for your visit and such wonderful words on 9-11!
Enjoy your Sunday!

What great treasures you have acquired!! I vote for double welting - it always adds a touch of elegance; and your chairs certainly are elegant. Have a great week. Sally
Your chairs are indeed stunning. I need a double piping pressure foot too. My machine is so old I need to find one that will work. You'e done a great job with the linen. It looks beautiful. Your clocks are all so pretty. I love clocks and think they are just fascinating. So many different styles and you've worked yours into some beautiful vignettes. Hugs, Marty
love your clocks.~! I think you're doing a great job with the chair so be brave and try that double piping you spoke of..
wishing you all the best of luck with your project ..
Happy Sunday from NC

I am in love with your chairs! They are gorgeous...such a wonderful shape! I love the fabric you used to recover them! All of your other finds are beautiful!
Happy Sunday!
Cathy
The fabric on your chairs looks great, it sets off the woodwork perfectly.
An upholsterer told me to attach double piping with fabric glue, holding the piping in place with large upholstery pins while the glue dries.

Linda, The chairs are gorgeous and I love them with the linen fabric. The clock is also adorable.
Thanks for your sweet comment on my buffet. The finish on the chairs came from the manufacturer and it is an off white with a glaze. I really didn't try to mimic the chair finish on the buffet. There is a slight contrast between the pieces but I liked that it now doesn't look like a set.
Hugs, Sherry
Hi Linda! I love those wonderful chairs! I think the linen looks so pretty and timeless. I love the idea of the double piping! You are a talented seamstress, so yuo can do it! You go girl! lol You have some interesting clocks in your collection! A demain!...Debbie
I took an upholstery class last year and learned to make double piping. With the foot, it was so easy and looks great. We stapled it on between the cords and they roll in so the staples do not show. Good luck, I think it will look great!
Beautiful chairs. I love the Big Ben clocks, too...you don't have to worry about the power going out and not getting up on time!
Great finds! I can't wait to see your chair all finished. Keep us updated!
Lucky you to get such beautiful and special things!
I like the double piping idea, but I would staple not glue, it will last longer. Perhaps you could use a colour that would complement the rest of your room's decor.
You have a great eye for detail Linda, so I am sure whatever you choose will look fabulous.
Warmest Hugs,

Those chairs are fabulous, Linda. I love the details of the wood. I can't wait to see the finished product. Sorry I cannot give any advice on the piping cause I have never upholstered. Love your clocks and the silver candelabra.....Christine
Your chairs are beautiful! You did a great job covering them, can't wait to see the trim!
I love your chairs. I redo lots and lots of chairs it's some work but worth the outcome. I think the double piping will be beautiful!!!
I so love your vignettes and your chairs. Thanks so much for linking to TTT. Hugs, Marty
I like the chairs like that Linda!
And wow do you have some beautiful clocks! I know nothing about double piping but it sounds good!
Have a great week,
Cindy
Darling chairs and clocks. olive♥
Hi Linda...
Ohhh...those chairs are fabulous! I love all the ornate design on the wood! Girl, you are doing a great job so far...the linen fabric is really pretty. I'm sorry that I can't be of much help when it comes to double piping...I've never tried doing anything like that. I bet you'll get it figured out though. Can't wait to see what you decide and the finished piece! I also really enjoyed seeing some of your old clocks! They are so fascinating! Sooo many pretties, Linda! Ohhh...and one more thing...I love that silver candelabra! Gorgeous!!! Thank you so much for sharing all your pretties with us...this was such a treat, my friend!
Warmest wishes,
Chari @Happy To Design
Hi Linda! Oh, your chairs are gorgeous! I like the linen look on them. Good luck with the double piping - it sounds like it would be the perfect finish.
Your clocks are great. The baby mantle is adorable.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia :)
Oh those chairs are gorgeous! I like the plain linen. I think it does cause the focus to be on the beautiful wood and the carvings in the chair. Great clocks too. How wonderful to have the clock that belonged to your husband's grandmother. laurie
I like the plain linen, but if you wanted to add some punch to them, I'd go with a nice braid or cording. There's so many beautiful options out there.
I also love the clocks.

Your chairs are darling! So I have no help for there. Upholstery intimidates me! eeeeek!
Your clocks are lovely!

The chairs look great! I do think double piping would look great! I am "in the process" of taking an upholstery class and tonight is my third class. I have not done double cording yet, but I am going to do it on the chair I am working on....I will keep you posted!
LOVE those clocks...what awesome heirlooms...
Lou Cinda :)
Linda, if you want to add just a touch of accent, why not use a contrasting color for the double welt? I've had it done for a client and it looked very classy. Perhaps one of the colors in your room?
The chairs are gorgeous, BTW. Pretty wood detailing. And clocks- don't get me started- I love them.
~ Sue
Those really are gorgeous chairs!! Double piping sounds good - I have no idea how to make piping!
I hope you get more showings for your house! You're scaring me! We may rent out our house if the market is slow next spring. Have you thought about doing that?
Manuela
How lucky you are to have such beautiful Aesthetic style side chairs. They will look great reupholstered and edged with piping or gimp. Jane F.
I love the chairs and I think you have done a wonderful job on the seats!
Love the clock, my mom had one of those only a beige one! Thanks for stopping by!

The chair looks great. It's refreshing to see you didn't cover it in some trendy pseudo flour/potato sack material. I still prefer double welt as opposed to other trim choices. But a few times I have gotten in a hurry cutting the trim and snipped the welt. Ahh nothing a little hot glue won't cure. ;)
