I finished one - yea! I made some double cording (welting, piping, whaterever!). I'll show you how at the end of this post.
I'm pleased with the way it turned out.
I like its neutralness.

If I want some color, I can put any pillow on the chair.
Also tried my hand at sewing a slipcover for this ottoman out of scraps. Whew! I had just enough.

or maybe this gravy tureen......

or maybe this old pitcher.

The presser foot had 2 humps that sat on top of the cording.

Here's the finished product.

Oh, it takes almost 5 yards of cording per chair for double piping, so I finally put my antique spool to use - it's holding about 15 yards of cording!

Oh, I'm not hiding anything....I just like the way it looks with the afghan thrown over the ottoman. You never know when you might need an afghan in 90 degree weather!
Thanks to all you courageous and crafty people out there in Blogland!!!! I would never have even attempted upholstery or making slipcovers had I not seen all your fabulous make-overs!
And, BTW, I spent $10 on linen fabric, $3 on cording - total $13 - so that's $3.25 per chair! Well, I guess I have to add in the presser foot for the cording - $15 - so that pushes it up to about $7.00 per chair....not bad!
Found a place for my flea market spools, on top of the thrift store OLD books, and a little Dollar Tree pumpkin.

OK, so how do you make double cording? This is my "by the seat of my pants" version. If you are a serious upholsterer, you might want to check out now! First I sewed one piece of cording on, using my zipper foot.

Next I placed the second cording next to the first cording, as close as possible.
Then I rolled it over to the finished side and stitched right down the middle, using my double cording presser foot. The extra fabric can be cut off close to the seam after you are finished.

Oh I love your chair and the double cording is fabulous. I need one of the pressure feet to go with my machine. Then I will get busy on a chair that I have. Your spools look wonderful in all of your displays. You always do the neatest things. Hugs, Marty
That is so good Linda, you should be very proud!

Wonderful job on the chair, the light color with the dark color of the wood makes all the detail of the chair pop. Love the clock collection and all your vignettes were just beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Linda your chair is gorgeous. I don't think I would be brave enough to make cording. You did a great job.
Perfect! I know what you mean about 3 to go....I always love doing the first one! But by the time I get to the last one - I have had enough of a good thing! I usually have to bribe myself to finish!
Really good job, Linda! I love the chairs!....Christine
Great transformation and thanks so much for the tip on the double cording. Your pieces look fabulous and the price sure was right.
Once again, I wish I had inherited the sewing gene...great job, Linda!
Congrats on the great job on your chair(s) and ottoman, they look super!
Wow, you've been a busy bee. Your chair and ottman look great!
The chair turned out splendid. You are so smart to do all of this new sewing. I only sew by hand as sewing machines confuse me terribly. hugs♥olive
I absolutely love your chair and the double welting is fantastic. I really need one of those pressure feet. I have to see if I can find one for my old machine. Thanks so much for linking to TTT. Hugs, Marty
Your chair is beautiful and your table top looks great. Love the pitcher on the books.

FABULOUS job on recovering your lovely chairs!! I also like how you've displayed your vintage spools....I have several and should bring them out more.

Love the chair and the double cording.
I don't have the double cording attachment but I think I will be getting one now.
Thanks!

An awesome job on the chair and ottoman. Wish I could do it..I have two club chairs and ottoman that need recovering SOOOO bad. I can't sew a lick so am thinking of buying slipcovers and probably will just hate them....!! :(
Well, maybe I need my 2nd cup of coffee cause I am feeling grumpy and...we can't have that!! :)
Beautiful job!!
