Painted Furniture - and unexpected Treasures

I really like all that painted furniture I have been seeing on your blogs, and I finally did some painting myself....er....hubby did. He knows he paints better than I do (he's a perfectionist and I am "just get 'er done). Between the chair and the hutch sits my grandmother's little telephone table and stool. I just love it because I can picture it in her house and her sitting and talking on her phone! However, I sort of considered it "off limits" to paint - I mean, it was hers! However, seeing some of my daughter's recent beautiful paint experiences (if you stand still at her house for more than 5 minutes, you get spray painted!) convinced me that my Grammy would say, "Just do it, Honey!".

Also, we have this little chest that serves as a coffee table in our keeping room. Again, brown blah!

So hubby painted the telephone table and stool. He said, "Why don't you put the telephone book in there?" Well, first, we live in a big city and we have several phone books, and second, who wants to see a phone book in a telephone table - I mean really!!! So I added some old red books.

I'm looking at my small cordless phone and remember my Grammy's black phone with the cord and the party line that she had for many years....you know....when it rings differently for each person's house. I never could figure out her ring???!!!

Don't her cute, curvaceous legs show up better?!

Hubby thought it might be good to leave the top of the chest stained and paint the rest. I think that was a fabulous idea!

Don't you love garage saling when you find something that you didn't realize you needed? And especially when it is a decorator's garage sale (whose husband told her, "Get some of that stuff out of the basement!")

I really needed this step up to our poster bed. The mattresses these days are soooo high.

I had been using this little Target gem on the other side of the bed so that no one could see her but me.

I was thrilled to get this $20 solid mahogany step up....looks soooo much better.

And a $3 Liz purse....

And a $4 sassy leopard pillow.

I'm joining these wonderful ladies this week:

Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for Met Monday

Rhoda at Southern Hospitality for Today's Thrifty Treasures

Linda at Coastal Charm for Nifty Thrifty Tuesday

Hope you have a wonderful week. Blessings to you. Linda

Your painted furniture is fabulous, Linda.

Our subdivision had a sale this weekend and I didn't even go. I should get motivated...all the good sales will be over and I won't have any treasures!

Happy Weekend!

I love to go to garage sales, but don't get to do it very often. I may have to change that! :)

Linda, thanks so much for your sweet comments about the moss ball centerpiece I made. I just used all the moss and everything from the DT. The only reindeer moss I used were the few pieces around the edge of the bowl, they are bright lime green, they're the stuff Gloria of Happy To Be sent me. She grows that stuff on all her trees. Can you imagine just going out in the backyard and picking this stuff. Love it. Anyway, try the paper ball idea, it saves a ton of money, since all the styrofoam balls cost so much. Can't wait to see what you do. Hugs, Marty

Looks SO much better! So much brighter and more cheerful! And yes, ha ha, if you stand still here for too long, you WILL be spray painted! Either that or covered in new fabric! : )

Hi Nina (that's my Grandma's name!). I found you at Metamorphosis Monday and I'm now your newest follower! I love how the telephone table and chest turned out. Good for you for taking the plunge! I'd love it if you could stop by my blog if you have a chance. http://happybabydesigns.blogspot.com

oooh i love the chest! i think your husband was right to have you leave the top as is. it adds a bit more rustic charm and then you don't have to worry about accidentally cipping off paint when you put your feet up and relax!

Great Job on the painted furniture and I love how you kept the top of the coffee table dark.

I did not know that is a telephone table. I bought one years ago at an antique store and thought it was a kids desk set.

They look great painted! I love the table.

One thing that interests me is...when you painted the phone table your chair turned from blue plaid to red! How did this happen? New chair, or reupholstery?

I do like to rich creamy color you chose for the phone table and the chest, too. They look great--and so does the red chair.

Linda, you perfectly described the way my husband and I paint. I want it done right now, but he is slow and careful, and it turns out so much better. I wish I could get him to paint some of my furniture. Your phone table looks so pretty. Love all of your bargains. laurie

Linda, I love what you did, painting those furniture pieces. I seem to hold onto everything I don't use for clients and then eventually end up selling them at my own yard sales because I never quite finished (or started) a project.LOL - you'd like shopping my sales, too!

I love that you gave new life to a piece that means so much to you...sometimes it's hard to take that plunge!

Love the lime green, too.
