Before I show you my Kitchen Redo,
I'm posting some projects from 2010.
I didn't think I had done much,
but on reflecting, I decided to join
Rhoda at Southern Hospitality for her Top Ten Projects of 2010.
First - my porch redo.

Pillows made from old linen French/English fabric.

Before pic of my MIL's stool

After pic with Heirloom White paint and French/English fabric

Painted furniture (Grammy's old telephone table & stool)
and my first attempt at a slipcover.

Painted the old chest used as a coffee table.

Made drop cloth drapes, creamy burlap ruffled runner,
and painted dining room chairs Heirloom White
and covered with Frenchy writing.
(NOTE: Wonderful Mr. Nest did all the painting - he does it better : )

My first attempt at upholstery on my MIL's antique chairs.
Also made some double piping!

All my projects can be found (I hope) under the categories listed.

My kitchen redo is finally complete!
It started with dark stained cabinet and white porcelain knobs - 1979!
The appliances and countertops were white.
About 6 years ago, we put in Silestone countertops.
About 6 years ago, we put in Silestone countertops.
The dishwasher (28 years old and working great!) was replaced (with black)
because all the indicators on the knob had been rubbed off with time and use!
We never knew when we were washing, rinsing, or drying...
plus it sounded like a freight train going through.
Five years ago we had the cabinets painted and glazed.....still loving it!
2 years ago we replaced the "still working" white double ovens
just 'cause they had become an eyesore.
But we kept our cooktop - still working great - coils and downdraft vent!
A little cleaning and simplifying of the countertops...

A garage sale brown "thingamajig" painted
and hung above the window.....

A "Bon Appétit" sign added to the kitchen.
(Debbie @Confessions of a Plate Addict and I commiserate over
why they leave off the important accent! It affects the pronunciation!)

I cut off the pic of my paperwhites in bloom!
Did you notice the cooktop? My sweet Jenn-Air.....over 31 years old.....never had a thing go wrong with her (except replace one coil burner)....gone.....replaced by a younger model.
She didn't quit working.....the vent control quit working.
I called a repairman and they don't make those switches anymore.
Sad......my J.A. fixed up many a meal over 31 years.
But.....

The newer version has a stronger downdraft,
as well as 2 burners with double sizes.
Pretty nice.
The only downside is that this sleek, shiney as a mirror
cooktop has to be wiped down every time you use it.
They didn't tell me that.
My little brushed stainless could get away
with a little unnoticed stain and grease.
Oops, I shouldn't tell you that!
Well, everything is complete....
Hmmmmm, wouldn't the fridge look great with cabinet doors to match
the cabinets....hmmmmm....
not gonna happen!
We're done!

Hope you have a Happy New Year!
It's just around the corner.
May you be blessed with family, friends, and faith.
Linda

Looks fabulous Linda!
We are always wondering why they can't make appliances "like they used to". They were real work horses.
I would love to have our cabinets painted and glazed. But they are just coming on 8 years old in 2011.
I don't think J would agree to it.;-)
J' adore!
What a lot of work, but what a beautiful result!
So, what's for dinner?
Your kitchen looks fabulous, Linda. Yes, you do have to clean that cooktop every time you use it if you want it to look good. I have a white one and I use the ceramic cooktop cleaner and a scour pad and sometimes a razor blade for the stuck on stuff. Thanks so much for linking to my party tonight.
Linda, your kitchen looks fantastic. I know it's a lot of work, but just think how you will enjoy this new kitchen. Happy New Year! ~ Sarah

Your kitchen looks so homey and warm. I think the fact that you did it over time shows and makes it look more personal and so it has more character.
Enjoy your beautiful kitchen!

Looks like your paperwhites grew almost as tall as mine. They were on some kind of steroids..about 30" tall...crazy!!
Your kitchen looks lovely and I commiserate about the constant wiping and smearing on the cooktop!
Janet@Housepeepers
I love your kitchen, Linda and all your other reupholstery and repainting projects. I think we have the same Jenn-air cook top, except I have a grill in between the 2 coils and vent, well we used to before you replaced yours. I would hate to have anything go wrong with mine cause I love it and I know they don't make parts anymore. Happy New Year!.....Christine
Your kitchen is just beautiful... I've been on a redo for almost a year now, bit by bit with my own hands and I'm so in love with my kitchen now.. thanks so much for your visit today and for your kind words.
My resolution for the New Year is to finish it in 2011..haha
Happy New Year!
Sandy
I just had to leave a comment...I love your kitchen redo, looks beautiful! I have been scouring blogs as I am looking to redo our kitchen-and your kitchen sounds so similar to ours, 1985, dark wood, porcelain knobs, some updates already like countertops and some appliances, etc. Then I saw you are a retired French teacher, me too! And then I saw you are in Atlanta, me too! How funny :-)
Could I possibly email you to ask you more about your kitchen cabinet work? I couldn't locate a "contact" anywhere...merci en avance!
Linda your kitchen redo turned out BEAUTIFUL!! I just love all your accessories. Martina
Hi Linda! I know this is an older post but I'm back tracking through your posts. Great redo of your kitchen ~ I love your cabinets. I'm hoping to get a creamy white cabinet kitchen when we downsize {have had oak way too long!}. I agree with you on the new glass cooktops. I almost which I had my old stove again and deal with the soaking and scrubbing of the electric coil drip pans that I used to curse.
